Cameroon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement released by state media on Monday, called on the families of the deceased to contact ministry officials in the capital, Yaounde. Cameroon confirmed that Russian authorities have confirmed the killing of 16 Cameroonians who participated in the war against Ukraine. This is the first time this Central African country has mentioned the participation of its nationals in the ongoing war. A diplomatic note, also dated Monday, referred to the deceased as 'Cameroonian nationality military contractors' operating in a special military operations zone, a term Russia uses to describe the war in Ukraine. The statement and the diplomatic note did not specify how their service ended.
